Poets & Composers Salon - upcoming - FRIDAY, JULY 25th! @ 8PM

"The salon was an Italian invention of the 16th century which flourished in France throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. The salon continued to flourish in Italy throughout the 19th century. In 16th-century Italy, some scintillating circles formed in the smaller courts which resembled salons, often galvanized by the presence of a beautiful and educated patroness…one of the important features of the salon was the gathering and exchanging of ideas.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salon_(gathering)

“A rent party (sometimes called a house party) is a social occasion where tenants hire a musician or band to play and pass the hat to raise money to pay their rent, originating in Harlem during the 1920s. The rent party played a major role in the development of jazz and blues music." Lots of talented folks - such as poet Langston Hughes and pianist Fats Waller - emerged from these rent parties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent_party

Today’s creative artists - undeterred by negative things like clubs closing or not paying – have returned to the brilliant concept of hosting high-caliber artistic events in private residences. And thus “Poets & Composers Salons” were born. COPUS Multimedia and Phoenix Rising Music continue to present the best indie talent in the Bay Area at this wildly successful monthly concert series. For pictures of previous Salons, visithttp://www.facebook.com/copus.multimedia

Said one happy attendee: "An absolutely wondrous & transcendent evening. Thanks to each performer for their soulful work and to the hosts for making this possible!" ~Ron Wolf

The next “Poets & Composers Salon” is scheduled for FRIDAY, JULY 25th. The event will include poets Kayla Sussell and Richard Lorangerr. Kayla is a retired copy editor and lively octogenarian poet of jazz who reveals in her poetry some of her experiences with many jazz illuminaries. Richard is the author of Poems for Teeth, The Orange Book, and eight chapbooks. Vibraphonist Dan Neville will bring his jazzy vibes to the mix, MC Ne will be our hostess with the mostest, and there will be new material presented by award-winning ambient ensemble Phoenix Rising and always fresh COPUS.

There will be some scheduled and impromptu collaborations including one of Kayla Sussell’s poems about the jazz scene in New York during the Beat Era interwoven with the haunting flute by Monica Williams. COPUS will be premiering a wonderful “COPUS-ized” version of the hit song "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers… and lots more fun surprises!

Please join us for an evening of artistry, camaraderie, intelligent conversation, food, drink, and fun!

*RSVP (up to 24 hours before the event) for the exact address in the 'deep Sunset' of San Francisco.

$10-15 suggested donation to pay artists.

Thank you!

FILM PREMIERE & LIVE MUSIC
4450 18th Street @ Douglass
San Francisco, CA

WHAT IS HAPPINESS?

On Saturday evening, November 12th, there will be a gathering of seekers interested in exploring this question through a presentation of film, music, spoken word and community.   “Living Luminaries: on the Serious Business of Happiness” is an independent film starring actor/producer/happiness seeker Sean Mulvihill who makes his “sojourn from office to church to park to garden to talk with the experts”.  The film includes interviews with today’s visionaries including Marianne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle, and Michael Beckwith.  Exclusive footage of Ram Dass that was cut from the film will also be shown.  “If there were more films like Living Luminaries and fewer like Smokin’ Aces, the world might automatically be a little better.” ~ Bob Green, Honolulu Weekly.  www.hollywoodhappiness.com

Opening the program are two San Francisco-based ensembles that present conscious music and lyrics for the intelligent listener.  Phoenix Rising presents soundscapes of light and energy and features world flutist Monica Williams and award-winning composer/pianist Wendy Loomis.  www.phoenixrisingmusic.net

COPUS is a rap/jazz/fusion band that features poetic stylings of Royal Kent, bassist Patrick Mahon, percussionist Omar Taylor, together with Loomis and Williams.  www.copus.bandcamp.com .

The event will take place at the Hanuman Center in the Castro District of San Francisco.  The Center was co-founded by Arch deLeon in 2000 where he manifests the mission of assisting people in finding their inner voices and exercising those voices daily.   Hanuman is under the umbrella of nonprofit Integral Living Society.  www.hanumancenter.com

Sponsors of the event include Rev. Trella Davis, MBA with www.AccessYourAnswers.com, Personal & Business Intuitive Counseling & Healing, which specializes in body-mind reprogramming.  The evening will round at with some free give-aways and a Q&A session with Los Angeles-based Sean Mulvihill.

Thank you to everyone who came out to round 1 at the Red Devil Lounge and cheered COPUS on! We so appreciate your energy and love. In addition, your votes enabled us to move on to ‘round 2’ in the Emergenza international music competition (www.emergenza.net) – pretty cool. So far there have been over 100 bands performing in the San Francisco branch of the festival and to date, COPUS is in third place for number of votes (the wonderful BAYONICS, who played at the end of the evening for those of you who stayed, is in first place). ‘Round 2’ is scheduled for SATURDAY NIGHT, APRIL 1st (…’and may the fool be you!’) at the 12 Galaxies club on Mission Street (2565 Mission). For those of you who missed the excitement the other night, mark your calendars for this crucial evening. Tickets go on sale soon – there will be discounts for tickets purchased early. For those of you who surrounded us with love last night, we know you’ll come out again on that warm, spring night to share in the joy. We are forming a street team of producers to sell tickets and get the word out about intelligent music and lyrics and will be contacting some of you gregarious fans regarding this – lots of prizes, perks, and free tickets are involved!
