THURSDAY, MAY 30th – Monica Williams (flutist) is the conductor of the Flock of Flutes ensemble at Civic Arts in Walnut Creek. On Thursday evening the FOF will once again be performing its classical and modern repertoire including two pieces composed by Wendy Loomis: “Poem for Innocence” with Wendy on piano; and “Lake Tear of the Clouds” featuring a contrabass solo and piano and flute by Wendy and Monica (aka Phoenix Rising). SATURDAY, JUNE 8th – COPUS will once again be performing at the San Mateo County Fair as part of the “Carrying the Light” literary and visual arts exhibits. SATURDAY, JUNE 15th – Phoenix Rising will be presenting a workshop at the San Mateo County Fair called “How to Play the Native American Flute in 10 Minutes!”. Workshop starts at 6:00pm (an additional workshop may also be added at 7:00pm). During the ½ hour session participants will learn the basics of playing the Native American flute, listen to a short performance by Phoenix Rising on flutes, percussion, and keyboard, and then collectively play a piece together.
